Parents and Guardians welcome to the 2017–2018 school year at Christ the King Catholic School. It is with great joy and hope that we gather to begin a new year of study and friendship. The first days of school are one of my favorite times during the school calendar. There is electricity to the morning air that is full of possibilities. The teachers and students are refreshed and ready to get down to the fun of learning. And everyone has straight A’s! Please join with me in my prayers that we share a safe and fun experience this year and we work together to give our students the best education possible.

It is with a tremendous amount of sadness that I announce that I will not be returning to CTK this year. I will miss all of the students, parents, and my co-workers tremendously. You all have been my family, friends, and support system for these last twelve years; words cannot express how grateful I am for each and every one of you.

BEGINNING OF SCHOOL IMPORTANT DATES AND TIMES
8/23: 8th GRADE MATH CLASS: Algebra class begins tomorrow, Wednesday August 23rd at 7:00 a.m.
8/24: CHOIR: School is starting up which means our Friday morning masses are starting as well! For returning choir students, we will be rehearsing this Thursday, August 24th from 2:45 pm - 3:15 pm in the church. Just as last year, we will also meet Friday morning, August 25th at 7:30 am in the church to prep for mass. For parents with students interested in joining the choir, more information and a registration form will be sent out in the family letter next week. We hope your student decides to join!
8/25: WELCOME BACK STUDENT MASS: You are all welcome to join us this Friday, August 25th at 8:00 am for our Welcome Back to School Mass. It is a Dress Uniform Day for all students.
8/25: GARDEN CAFÉ: The end of an ERA! This will be the last wonderful breakfast at our Café as the Ministry Center will be closing for remodeling. Join us on Friday morning, August 25th, 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. at the Ministry Center.
8/28: PARENT ASSOCIATION MEETING (formerly known as PTG): Calling all CTK Parents! We would like to invite all parents to attend our first Parent Association (PA) meeting as we see what the new PA is all about. Our goal this year is to be a sounding board and place for parents to discuss issues, upcoming events or to gain clarity on blacktop discussions. Any questions please contact PA President, Megan Lopoz at email@example.com. We will meet in the Media Center on August 28th at 7:00 pm.
8/28: CYO COACHES NEEDED: The 2017-2018 Christ the King CYO Basketball Season is about to begin! Registration is still open but we need coaches for all grades. Please consider volunteering. There will be a coaches meeting on Monday, August 28th at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. Hope to see you there! Please reach out to Allen Brezac with any questions @ firstname.lastname@example.org
8/30: PICTURE DAY: Picture Day is next Wednesday, August 30th. Students are to be in Dress Uniform for pictures. An order form is enclosed for each child in today’s envelope. Get more choices and best value when you shop online. If you order online you do not need to return the form. If you are ordering and paying by cash or check you will need to fill out order form and return your order form by Tuesday, August 29th with your child TO THE CLASSROOM TEACHER. If your student does not have an order form or have not placed an online order you will not will not receive any individual pictures. All students will have their pictures taken for the class photo. Let’s get those great smiles ready.
8/31: BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: Back to school night for all grades begins next Thursday August 31st at 6:30 p.m. in the Church. All parents meet in church for Principal welcome at 6:30 p.m. More details in next week’s bulletin. Please note: This is a parents only event.
9/11: MONSIGNOR WADE GOLF TOURNAMENT: Please see the flyer for the Msgr. Wade Memorial Golf Tournament in today’s family download on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Oakhurst Country Club, Clayton. For more info e-mail: email@example.com.
9/19: CTK 9th ANNUAL WALK-A-JOG-A-THON FUNDRAISER: Whether you want to volunteer to help at the event or just be there to cheer your child on, the date for this year’s fundraiser is Tuesday, September 19th.
HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION
STUDENT MEDICATIONS, EPI PENS AND INHALERS: All student medication must be checked in through the School Office. If your child has a severe allergy, epipens and inhalers can be kept in the classroom but must be checked in through the school office first. If your child requires an epi-pen or inhaler and attends CLUB CTK, you will also need an epi-pen or inhaler in CLUB CTK. The classrooms and office are closed at 3:30 so in an emergency epi-pens and inhalers in these areas are not available.
SUPPLEMENTAL HEALTH INSURANCE: All students at CTK are covered by an accident insurance policy, but if you wish to purchase additional student accident and health insurance that will protect your children 24-hours a day, year round, a form is included in today’s envelope. Please review the form to note the additional coverage available beyond our regular coverage.
SMALL PARKING LOT INFORMATION: All parents dropping off students or parking/walking students down to school between 7:45 - 7:55 a.m. may not park in the small adjacent to the Parish House. Use the big parking lot only in front of the Parish Hall/Gym. We have many elderly parishioners who need to park as close as possible to the church
the parish has asked us to pass this information to you. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
STUDENT DROP-OFF/PICKUP SAFETY: Students are not to be dropped off or picked up on Brandon Road due to cars that drive out the two exits on this street. In order to secure the safety of our students, they can only walk in from or out to Brandon Road if an adult accompanies them. Please assist us in this matter.
AFTER SCHOOL PLAY ON THE YARD: We ask your cooperation when allowing your children to play on campus after the end of school bell. You are always welcome to have your children visit after the last bell, as long as you are directly supervising them. We ask you to stay with them wherever they might be playing (on the Big Toy or on the grass field). CLUB CTK personnel cannot supervise your children. Please help us to ensure the safety of all our children by keeping an eye on yours, especially any younger, non-school age siblings. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter!
TUITION: Payment is due on the first of the month and late on the eighth. Late fees will be assessed. Please remember that tuition payments should be made in the amount noted on your tuition contract.

If you have questions about your payment, please contact Mrs. Wilson in the office for clarification. Families experiencing financial hardship during the school year are encouraged to contact Mr. Caban or Mrs. Wilson to discuss assistance or a change in payment dates.
SCRIP UPDATE: Welcome back to school from your scrip crew! You may notice that there is no SCRIP order form in today's envelope. Be ready to fall back in love with scrip! PICTURE DAY ASSISTANTS: Two parent volunteers are needed to help on picture day, August 30th from 8:15 - 11:00 a.m. Earn up to 3 personal choice hours. Please call the office if you can help out.
THURSDAY HOT LUNCH: Hot Lunch needs volunteers. It is a great way to have interaction with the students as well as building bonds with parents. Involves food preparation/distributing and set-up/clean up. Every other Thursday from 11:00-1:00. Please contact Rachel Becker firstname.lastname@example.org or Sara Ghisletta email@example.com if you want to volunteer.
CHOICE LUNCH REQUEST: We need two volunteers for the Tuesday shift, and one Monday serving Choice Lunch. The time commitment is 11:45 to 12:45 every other week and one person on Monday. Please contact Vickie Rubino at firstname.lastname@example.org. 18 or more personal choice hours can be earned.
UNSTUFFING FAMILY ENVELOPES: We need regular Family Envelope UN-stuffers (and substitutes) every other Wednesday morning from 8:15-9:15 a.m. If you can volunteer, please contact Marybeth Mockler at: (email@example.com), or firstname.lastname@example.org. 18 or more personal choice hours can be earned.
MONSIGNOR WADE GOLF TOURNAMENT: We are looking for more volunteers to help with the Monsignor Wade Golf Tournament on Monday, September 11th. THURSDAY HOT LUNCH /MILK ICE CREAM:
• Hot Lunch will be served this Thursday. It is Pizza and Salad Day; don’t forget your Hot Lunch ticket.
• Milk will be available starting tomorrow at lunch. The cost of a milk ticket is .75 cents. Ice cream will be sold beginning next Tuesday, August 29th at lunch time. The cost of ice cream is 2 tickets - $1.50.
Hot lunch tickets and ice cream ticket orders already filled will be in the Family Envelope today if you did not pick up this morning. If you have not ordered tickets, order forms are attached in today’s download. Return completed forms and payment to the school office tomorrow. Orders received tomorrow will be sent home with your child at the end of the day. Forms will be in the download each week. Plan ahead and purchase tickets ahead of time so you have plenty on hand. Orders are filled and returned to you via Family Envelope.
CHOICE LUNCH: Registration for Choice Lunch's delicious hot lunch program is available. Go to http://www.choicelunch.com/ to order or for more information and to create your account. To create a new account, the registration code for Christ the King is ctk. Hot lunch will be available starting Wednesday, August 23rd for those families that have placed on-line orders.
EMAILING TEACHERS: If you wish to reach any of our teachers by email you enter the following address: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please check for the correct spelling of all teachers’ names.
SCHOOL CALENDAR: The school calendar is available on the CTK School website in Google format.
• Current dates are available on the home page on the right side of the screen. You can click on each item to get more information. Scroll down to view later dates. The full calendar can be found under the Calendar tab along the top bar of the website.
• The school calendar can be synced with Google Calendars on your electronic devices.
We hope you have had a fun beginning to our school year. It’s a pleasure to have your children at CLUB, thank you for sharing them with us!
• For safety reasons, any children not picked up within 15 minutes after the end of school will automatically be brought down to CLUB. If you have an emergency or caught in traffic, you can call our direct line 925-685-0995. Messages are picked up often.
• If your children will be picked up from CLUB by someone who is not on your Student Profile/Health & Dismissal Form (coaches, friends, carpools) please give us your permission in writing.
• Students participating in After School Programs must register with CLUB and provide student schedules.
• No Shows: If your child is attending school and we are expecting her/him at CLUB, please remember to notify us if she/he will not be attending. You may call, send a note, e-mail email@example.com. We search for every child who is on our list but has not checked in and we charge a flat fee of $5 for this service.
• Drop ins: We are most happy to have all children in CLUB regardless of whether you have notified us that they
will be will be coming. However, if you have not notified us, you will be charged the $6.75/hour drop-in rate.
• Minimum Days: All children attending CLUB on minimum days must make a reservation (for PM care only). Even if your child would normally attend that afternoon on a full day, you still must email or call CLUB to reserve a place for your child. If your plans change at the last minute, let CLUB know, call to reserve/or cancel a place. Children arriving without this reservation are most welcome, but their families will be charged the $7.00/hour drop-in rate.
• Billing reminder: For the first two weeks we do not charge our drop-in rates or no-show fees to give you time to work out your schedules and get used to the workings of CLUB. On the Tuesday after Labor Day we will resume these charges.
