Dear School Families,
Here we are in the second week of Advent. John the Baptist tells us to prepare the way for the Lord. Father Brian Timoney in his homily over the week-end reminded us to take time, to focus on the important things of the season and to enjoy the family. It seems there is frenzy around this season and yet the Gospel calls us to be still and be silent. Some suggestions to slow down: read together around the tree, talk about things that are important. What do you eliminate from the calendar, how do we celebrate Jesus everydayÖ
Prayers are requested for Great Grandmother of the Malone children who went to heaven, Donnie Fitzsimmons (Alumni - one of nine children in his family who attended CTK School and was DJ of Strawberry Fields) who went to heaven last week. Donnieís funeral will be this Friday, at 10:00 a.m.
For the Mother of Caesar Torres and the Grandmother of Ian (Gr. 6) and Isabella Torres (Gr. 4) who is seriously ill.
Prayers for Grace Corral and those fighting cancer, those who are hungry, homeless and without work, we pray to the LordÖ
Reading program:
Grades 1, 2, and 3 have a wonderful reading program that involves the classroom teacher, two additional teachers and the resource teacher. We are always seeking ways to improve our curriculum. Therefore there have been some changes to that program. Parents of students in Grades 1 and 2 will receive a letter today in the envelope explaining a change to the overall program. This is done after research, reviewing assessments and the ITBS test scores. We are always looking to improve our delivery of instruction.
Thank you to our teachers for always wanting to do the very best for our students!
Sacrament of Reconciliation:
All of the Grade two students will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday. Please keep them and their families in your prayers as they receive this important sacrament.
STUDENT COUNCIL ADVENT GOODIES: Running late, rain or shine, and donít have time to fix breakfast? Our Student Council and parent volunteers will be selling breakfast goodies on Wednesday, December 7th as an Advent Outreach Project to raise funds to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society Holiday Food Drive. GIFTS FOR ST. BONIFACE: The San Francisco Police Department will once again be collecting gifts for St. Boniface Parish in San Francisco on Tuesday morning, December 15th. The SFPD will be on hand with their vehicles at our 8 a.m. morning assembly to load up our gifts for needy families at St. Boniface which is in the Tenderloin. Please remember to wrap and label the gifts for man, woman, boy, or girl and give the size, age, and item. Please see the enclosed St. Boniface flyer with the gift tags.
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM NEWS: When: Thursday, December 15, 2011. Where: Christ the King Church. Time: Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Show begins at 7:00 p.m., and runs for about one hour. This year the students of Christ the King School will present an original musical: ìAloha, Christmas!" You may have been hearing your students practicing this, and other songs for this year's Christmas program: We are bringing Hawaii to CTK School for the day, and I'd like to give you some suggestions for attire for the students.
For all grades K-8 -think "Hawaii!" - Bermuda shorts (even school uniform shorts would work) with island shirts (or tee-shirts that have an appropriate graphic.)
They may wear sandals, flip-flops, or sneakers.
No hats, please.
Flowers in the hair, shell necklaces, sunglasses, or anything that goes with the theme are fine. Each class will be given leis, and some will have "specialty" items that will be created at school.
I am looking for a few items to help set the stage, so if you will let us borrow anything to help create the tropical island environment, please let me know. We are looking forward to seeing you on, Thursday, December 15th. Thank you all! "Mele Kalikimaka" means "Merry Christmas" to you!
