CHRIST THE KING SCHOOL PARENT BULLETIN
PLEASANT HILL, CALIFORNIA

June 1, 2010

Dear School Families,

This is our last letter for the 2009-2010 school year. It has been a year of hope, growth, changes, adjustment and lots of learning for all of us. As we look back, the teachers at meeting not too long ago mentioned some of these accomplishments:

• A successful WCEA/WASC visit
• Walk-a-Jog-A Thon fun and fundraiser
• ITBS scores were very good
• Faith Families have been a good experience for the 8th graders as leaders
• Challenging reading program in the primary grades
• Fostering gospel values/positive energy
• Sitting as a faith family at the school liturgies
• Increasing attendance at Mass on Fridays
• Prayer Garden/Garden of Blessings
• Wider use of portable laptops
• Expanded the Resource Program
• Presence of Fathers Brian, Declan and Donie
• And many more

Our goal for next year is to continue providing a quality Catholic education for each student. There will be three in-services for teachers to work on strengthening the curriculum throughout the diocese. Our very dedicated faculty and staff will be working on their goals for next year before they say good-bye in June. Our budget is set forth to provide a full program for your students. Together as partners we will work to educate your child for the 21st century.
Thank you for your presence at school events, your support, your fundraising efforts in order to keep tuition affordable, and most of all, your children!
A blessed and peace filled summer to all families!

FYI: Please note there has been a change in the Kindergarten entrance date which will be effective beginning 2011-2012 School Year. Children must be 5 years of age by September 1, 2011 in order to be admitted to Kindergarten for the 2011-2012 School Year.

THANK YOUS:
• Special thank you to our parish priests who serve us so faithfully.
• A special thank you to Mrs. Alonso, for the Performing Arts Workshop that was held on Thursdays throughout the school year and also our Choir Group that met on Monday afternoons. We are blessed by the many talents of our students and by the teacher who leads them! Thank you to our PE Teachers, Mr. Carini and Mrs. Maffeo, along with their 8th grade leaders for the terrific Field Games Day last Friday. Our students enjoyed the Faith Family gathering that allowed them to play together for the afternoon. The Basketball game at the end of the day with the 8th graders, faculty, and staff brought a rousing close to a fun-filled afternoon!
• We thank all of our volunteers: PTG, School Board, Room Parents, Hot Lunch Parents, Art Awareness, Auction/Festival, and the list goes on. It does take a village to educate our children.

CONGRATULATIONS: We wish to thank Mr. DeGennaro and all of the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Graders for a very successful Science Fair last Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The students were excited to present their projects to the parent and school communities. Well done Jr. High!

CONGRATULATIONS 8TH GRADE: We congratulate our Eighth Grade Class of 2010 on the occasion of their graduation this Friday evening at 7 p.m. and bid them farewell. These students have worked hard, had two retreats this year to focus on their spiritual life, entertained us with a Dickens of a Christmas Tale and provided many role-modeling opportunities to their school families as leaders. We wish them well and will miss each one of them.

8th GRADE FAMILIES LEAVING CTK: When our 8th graders graduate this Friday, some of their families will be leaving our school as well. We wish to say a warm goodbye to those parents who have been an important part of our school community. They have gifted us with their time and talents during their years at Christ the King School and their presence will be missed. Please join me in sending your thoughts and prayers to the following parents: Steven and Sharon Calloway, Chris and Marianne Dundon, Brian and Carla Evans, Larry and Trisha Fernandes, Brad and Lynne Kamin, Jim and Rene Maher, Skip and Carla Mendelson, Jeff and TJ Nelson, Frank and Judy Olvera, Mark and Cathy Van Buskirk, Mark and Patty Haggen, Jeff and Laura Hall, Roger and Annabel Lucich, Frank and Julie Marietti, Sharon Duffy and Steve Mathias, Kevin and Denise McQuiston, Cathy Kelly and Mark Medeiros, and Mike Setoudeh.

ART AWARENESS: Don’t forget to drop by and see the outstanding work produced by our CTK students this year due to the wonderful leadership of our Art Awareness parent volunteers. The main building hallway has truly been transformed into an Art Gallery! Thank you to Robin Morley and Celeste Johnson and all their volunteers!

END OF YEAR REMINDERS: Our school year is rapidly coming to a close! This week is the final Family Envelope of the 2009-2010 year. Your 2010-2011 packets went home two weeks ago. Please make sure to note the school year dates on your personal calendars at home so that you are aware of the Vacation Dates and Minimum Days for 2010-2011. There are many year-end responsibilities for all of us, and I encourage you to complete all paperwork as quickly as possible before the summer months begin. I also ask your cooperation in making sure that your accounts (Tuition, Extended Care, Family Service Hours, and CTK Fund) are paid in full before the last day of school. Please remember that the school must complete its year-end financial statements on June 30th and all delinquent accounts impede this process. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in these matters!

6th ANNUAL JULY 4th FIRECRACKER 5K FUN RUN:
The Pleasant Hill Fourth of July Commission has announced that the Firecracker 5K Fun Run will again be a part of this year’s Fourth of July
Celebration. All proceeds from the run will be donated to Pleasant Hill schools! Better yet, every runner who registers will receive a T-shirt and can designate what Pleasant Hill school they would like their registration fees to be donated to! Last year, the Fourth of July Commission awarded over $10,700 to Pleasant Hill schools. This is a great opportunity for parents and children, friends and neighbors to raise money for our school. Fleet Feet Sports, the Rotary Club of Pleasant Hill, and Allied Waste are generously sponsoring this year’s event, which will begin at 8 a.m. and makes three laps of the parade route in downtown Pleasant Hill. Same day registration and the start of the race will be in front of Fleet Feet Sports on Crescent Drive. On-line registration can be accessed by visiting the Fourth of July Commission’s website at www.PHJuly4.com and click on the “5K Run” tab. By registering on-line, individual runners and families will receive a break in registration fees from $5 to $15.
Last year CTK was the recipient of a check for $1,637 due to CTK parents and parishioners who designated our school as the beneficiary of their registration fees. What a great way to kick off the Fourth of July and to help our school!
